Florence is a fawn female Zebra finch. She was purchased from Pampurred Pets in Gosport in November 2010.
We think that Florence may have had some form of vitamin deficiency when she was a chick as her toes are not all fully formed and some don't have toe nails. As a consequence she prefers fatter perches as they are easier for her to grip.
Celestine - Female
Celestine - Female Penguin Zebra Finch
Celestine is a female penguin Zebra finch. She was purchased in 2012 as a rescue finch, as she was suffering severe injuries to her tail.
Her tail has since grown back, however it appears her wings may be genetically stunted, as she struggles to get much lift while flying. She currently lives with the Bengalese finches (as Zebras fight in odd numbers), and has teamed up with Aquila.
Celestine died 12th Sept 2012 from reasons unknown.
Jelly - Female
Jelly - Female White Zebra Finch
Jelly is a white female zebra finch with the tear drop markings and a greyish head. At first we thought she might be part penguin zebra but she does not have the tail markings. Jelly was purchased in April 2013.
She is called Jelly because when she sits down on a perch, she looks like a jelly mold.
Von le Blonc - Female
Von le Blonc - Female White Zebra Finch
Von le Blonc is a white female zebra finch (possibly a rare pure white). When we were buying Von, the store owner said she was a Male when we thought she was a Female. Von has since laid eggs...
When Von laid her eggs, she seemed really proud and protective, sitting on them at the bottom of the cage.
Von and Jelly seem to act very similar and do not get scared by humans that much (we can quite easily go into the cage near them and they do not freak out). It is possible they were hand raised.
Darwin - Male
Darwin - Male Fawn Zebra Finch
Darwin is a fawn male Zebra finch. He was purchased along with Florence from Pampurred Pets in Gosport.
Darwin always wants to be the boss in whatever cage he is in and as a result does cause some fights every now and again. This isn't unusual for Zebras though and Florence is usually the first to stand up to him.
Darwin is a real poser and is the easiest of all our finches to photograph.
Tonberry - Male
Tonberry - Male Zebra Finch
When we first got Tonberry he was very jumpy, but he now acts quite confident with the other birds. He has a fast pace song which sounds similar to a Grass Hopper. Tonberry was purchased in April 2013.
Storm - Female
Storm - Female Fawn Zebra Finch
Storm is a fawn female zebra finch. She is called storm because she frequently likes to flies in a vertical circle up and down.
Seems Storm and Tonberry may have originally come from an aviary, as we let them out of the cage once and they flew round the room with alot of stamina and accuracy.
